We would like to introduce you to Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium’s educational programme, extracurricular activities and school spirit.
Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium is a sixth form college/high school situated in Hellerup, north of Copenhagen. It was founded in 1894 and was originally a boys’ school. Today it is a mixed school with more than 900 students from approximately 120 primary and lower secondary schools in Greater Copenhagen and 100 teaching and administrative staff. We offer a variety of specialized study programmes within the fields of social science, the humanities and natural science.
The school contains a range of classrooms, laboratories and computer rooms to meet all the students’ needs. In July 2011 the school started building new sports facilities designed by the famous Danish architect and former Gammel Hellerup student, Bjarke Ingels. Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium specializes in pre-university education GCSE and A-level.
Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium has a reputation of high academic standards and outstanding examination results, engendering mature and independent students ready for the challenges of higher education at universities in Denmark and abroad.
In addition to their regular classes, the students are offered extra tuition after school and catch-up classes to fill in any gaps in their knowledge. Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium also offers extracurricular activities such as sports, music and drama.
All in all the school aims at combining informality and an adult approach to education, thereby creating an atmosphere of mutual respect and a strong sense of community among students and staff.
